Summer Home from Home

COMMUNITY EVENT
5-7pm, Saturday 5th September
Garnethill Multicultural Centre, 21 Rose Street, Glasgow

Hosted by Jude, Kirstin and Rosie, this season’s gathering had a focus on plants, growing and propagating. In the weeks before the event, we took cuttings of various low maintenance house plants, rooted and potted them to give away to attendees of Home From Home. Each plant had a label made by Join the Dots giving the name of the plant, simple care instructions, eco benefits and fun facts. It even had instructions on how to take cuttings and propagate a growing plant to make more plants. Around 30-40 baby spider plants, silver inch plants, money trees and aloe vera plants found new homes!

There was a mix of returning community members - including some older residents of the area and some new faces who had seen the poster locally - a really encouraging sign for Join the Dots! Pizzas were provided by Antipasti, salads and sides by Sprigg and there were edible contributions from people attending - as well as a fresh black chickpea daal cooked by a local resident at the event itself. New attendees helped display the bunting made in previous workshops. Several people played and sang at the piano, with guitars and one multi instrumentalist played medleys of well known pop. Local children were helped - with musical accompaniment - to present a Rapunzel-based play and a dance routine. We counted approximately 30-40 attendees.

Thanks to Garnethill Multicultural Centre for hosting us. Huge appreciation to Antipasti, Sprigg and the local community for providing food to share. Thanks to all the wonderful musicians who shared their time, energy and musical talents!
